Liverpool lead the English challenge but Brighton and West Ham have also made bright starts with the Hammers sitting top of Group A, while the Seagulls are third in Group B but just one point off the pace having beaten Ajax last time out.
Of the continental challengers, Atalanta, Sporting, Villarreal and Real Betis are all aiming to further their claims as attention turns to the final three rounds of group action.
Liverpool @13/5
Liverpool are fighting for trophies on several fronts this season and Jurgen Klopp's Reds, rejuvenated by a host of midfield reinforcements in the summer, will be aiming to sustain both a Premier League title challenge as well as a Europa League bid.
The Merseyside club are one of the most decorated clubs in Europe, winning the Champions League on six occasions and claiming this title three times under the Uefa Cup name in 1973, 1976 and 2001.
Liverpool looked a class above their Group E rivals when the draw was made and that has proved to be the case with the Reds easing to victories over LASK, Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse to top the group at halfway with a plus-eight goal difference.
While there will be greater challenges to come when the Champions League teams enter the Europa League, Liverpool have effectively booked their place in the knockout stages already and look well worth their favourites' tag.
Bayer Leverkusen @10/1
Bayer Leverkusen are going great guns in both the Bundesliga and the Europa League this season, topping their domestic standings after the first nine matches of the campaign and also winning their opening three contests in the Europa League.
Leverkusen dominated Swedish outfit Hacken in a 4-0 home win on matchday one before toughing out a 2-1 win away to Molde. Then they produced another high-class home performance when hammering Qarabag 5-1 to assume control of Group H.
Die Werkself have proved particularly formidable on their home patch this season and manager Xabi Alonso has been drawing rave reviews since taking over at the BayArena last October.
He steered Leverkusen to the semi-finals of last season's Europa League, where they were beaten by Roma, and will hope to mastermind an even better effort this time around.
AS Roma @12/1
Roma are well versed in European campaigns having reached the final of this competition last term, where they lost out to a Sevilla side who have now won an incredible five titles in the Europa League era.
Jose Mourinho's men secured a place in the 2023/24 Europa League through their Serie A efforts and, like Liverpool, are a perfect three from three, having seen off FC Sheriff, Servette and Slavia Prague in their first three Group G matches.
That positive start should allow them to avoid a play-off clash with a Champions League third-placed team and the squad and the manager have plenty of European experience to call upon in the latter rounds.
Brighton & Hove Albion @16/1
Brighton have been one of the Premier League success stories in recent seasons and the Seagulls remain among the leading Europa League contenders despite making an average start to their European campaign.
Roberto De Zerbi's men fell to a surprise 3-2 defeat to AEK Athens in their Group B opener before battling to a 2-2 draw in Marseille. Their hopes of European glory received a big boost though when they won 2-0 at home to struggling Ajax on matchday three - their first ever European victory.
West Ham United @20/1
West Ham qualified for the Europa League by virtue of winning the Conference League last season and the Hammers started their Group A campaign in fine style with a home win over Backa Topola and, perhaps more importantly, a win on the road in Freiburg.
However, David Moyes' team received a wake-up call in their third outing, a 2-1 defeat to Olympiakos in Greece which leaves them with little margin for error at the halfway stage of the group campaign.
West Ham face a crunch return leg with the Greek side next, which will go a long way to determining whether they advance to the knockout stages or instead get an unwanted crack at defending their Conference League crown.
