Sheffield United earned a point at Brighton after gaining their first win of the campaign against Wolves, while Luton and Burnley were defeated by Manchester United and Arsenal.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, were able to give themselves a bit of breathing space by beating Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday, a result that left the Cherries three points above the drop zone.
Clarets floundering at the bottom
Burnley are bottom of the table having lost 10 of their opening 12 games and scored just nine goals, but they are not the favourites to go down after their 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.
The Clarets have found life tough after storming to the Championship title last season and have lost all six of their home matches.
Vincent Kompany’s team are 8/13 to make an immediate return to the second tier and they will look to put that poor Turf Moor record right when they host West Ham and Sheffield United in their first two games after the break.
Other promoted sides in big trouble
The Blades and fellow promotees Luton are 1/6 to go straight back down despite some encouraging results over the last couple of weeks.
United beat Wolves with a late penalty and earned a point at Brighton on Sunday, while the Hatters were beaten by a single goal at Old Trafford at the weekend while Liverpool needed an injury-time Luis Diaz equaliser to earn a point at Kenilworth Road the week before.
The Blades will return to action with a key game against Bournemouth while Luton will hope to gain their first home win of the season with a clash against Crystal Palace.
EFL Cracked down on Toffees
Everton have received a ten point deduction from the EFL, dropping them 14 to a mere 4 points, seeing them fall from 14th all the way down to 19th, tied bottom on points.
For violating the EFL financial fair play and sustainability rules, the side saw their odds cut from a relatively safe 9/2, all the way down to 2/1 to go down.
Their is still hope for the Toffees, as many see the three recently promoted sides as prime candidates, with plenty of time left for Sean Dyche to turn it around on Merseyside.
Cherries showing some fight
Bournemouth’s win over Newcastle, courtesy of two goals from Dominic Solanke, was a timely boost after a hefty 6-1 defeat at Manchester City and they should glean plenty of confidence from their victory over the Magpies.
Andoni Iraola’s team are 9/4 to go down after their second home win of the campaign.
